Drunk Enough To Say I Love You

“Drunk Enough to Say I Love You” is directed by Caryl Churchill and stars Samuel West as Guy and Scott Cohen as Sam. If the title alone is not enough to draw your interest, you would have to be very sad indeed! Although the content may be a bit predictable if anything, the manner in which it is presented makes for a good day’s entertainment. This allegorical play is rather short in comparison to others, and deals with Britain giving into the demands of America. The play is very inventive and portrays both Britain and America as gay men tangled in a horrible love affair. The dialogue spews forth mocking the current political relations and has been handled with great care by director James Macdonald. Drunk Enough to Say I Love You was first performed in the year 2006 at the Royal Court Theater in London and leaves the audience with the idea that the world is slowly spinning out of control. It casts only two characters and the entire 45 minutes is an energetic conversation between the two men: Sam, the American and Guy, the Brit. The names allow for easy association but if this was not enough, the audience is also provided with further information in the programs of Sam, a country” and “Guy, a man.” The play is very insightful and witty and cuts on both sides. This is a great politically themed drama presented by the Public Theater and draws great numbers so get your tickets early at www.TicketsInSeconds.com.
