Forbidden Broadway: Rude Awakening

Forbidden Broadway is known for its satires and the shots it takes at other Broadway productions. It celebrates it s 25th anniversary this season and Rude Awakening is its latest creation. The show runs through several Broadway plays both old and new.  The show satirically targets various other Broadway hits and takes it name from the Spring Awakening. The play is in fact a revival of a previous satire titled The Roast of Utopia which is derived from Tom Stoppard’s well known and lengthy drama called The Coast of Utopia. Created by Gerard Alessandrini, who is known for his satirical plays, this musical comedy good naturedly throws a few punches out at Broadway productions.Rude Awakening was directed by Mr. Alessandrini himself in collaboration with Phillip George and producers Gary Hoffman, Masakazu Shibaoka and Jerry Kravat. The show is performed at the 47th Street Theater at 304 West 47th Street, Clinton and goes on for about an hour and a half. Some of the plays that were targeted were The Drowsy Chaperone, the musical “Hairspray, from which the famous number “You can’t stop the camp” was performed by the four member crew.If you like satires and theatre, you might just want to have a look at this one.
