Rock n Roll, the play by Tom Stoppard, is set in Czechoslovakia in1968, and deals with political liberation inspired by the unlikely sounding Plastic People of the Universe, an underground psychedelic rock band.The characters in Rock n Roll include the protagonist Jan – a student and die hard rock and roll music fan, particularly of the Plastic People of the Universe, his professor Max Morrow who is a firm believer in communism and a Czech secret police informer, his wife, Eleanor, who has cancer, and their ex-flower child daughter Esme.Rock n Roll, directed by Trevor Nunn, has won the London Evening Standard Theatre Award and the London Critics' Circle Theatre Award for Best New Play. Rock n Roll is running on Broadway at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
