The Odd Couple

The Odd Couple has made a name for itself in theatre ever since it was first created by Neil Simon. This play was designed especially for the funny bone and is known to keep the audience superbly entertained. The show itself is a revival of the original play which starred Nathan Lane and Mathew Broderick as the odd couple. The show was such a hit that it was later made into a movie, a TV serial, and also had several spins offs including one called The Oddball Couple where the main characters were a cat and a dog. The play is extraordinarily funny and delves into the interactions between two almost incompatible roommates, Oscar Madison and Felix Ungar, where one is a stickler for neatness and the other is a natural slob, who moves in with Oscar after his wife leaves him. There are several stories as to which “couple” provided the inspiration to the play, among which the most accepted is that Simon was led to write the play after seeing his brother Danny Simon and Roy Gerber, his theatrical agent, become room mates after a divorce.
