Wicked
The wonderful musical Wicked is based on Gregory Maguire’s popular novel ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’. Maguire’s work draws strongly from L. Frank Baum’s ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’, but the story is narrated from the unusual point of view of the wicked witches from the Land of OzElphaba, who is to become the Wicked Witch of the West, has a tumultuous relationship with the Good Witch of the North, Glinda, marked by arguments and differences, and rivalry in love. The play is set in Oz, presumably before Dorothy makes her appearance in this mysterious country, and makes several references to the original book. The other characters that play a part in the unfolding of this delightful tale include the Wizard, Madame Morrible, Fiyero, Boq and Nessarose.Winnie Hozman has created the book and the musical staging was done by Wayne Cilento. Tony Award-winner Eugene Lee has designed the sets and Susan Hilferty the costumes, and Kenneth the lighting designer used more than 800 separate lights to create various moods.
